Takeshi asked him.  Harry smiled and then chuckled. "Sorry. I forget that we haven't met before. I'm a mathematician.  I have a unique passion for formulae and defining the entire universe into one giant cognizant equation that will explain everything. It's almost like a personal quest. You don't become a mathematician without having a genuine love of mystery and a passion form problem solving. It's more of an enjoyment in my life more than a job. Sometimes I can't believe that I've the perfect job and sometimes I do mathematical equations for fun and to unwind."  Harry sipped his coffee and then quickly added, "Besides, you'd be amazed at some of the things that I've helped to mathematically define in my life. It's an accomplishment to gain a degree of notoriety among certain circles as a savant mathematician with a penchant for defining previously indefinable things. I'm like a poet, just with numbers and equations rather than words and prose."  (reply Katsurou) (Hades, Ten Forward - ATAC Takeshi Katsurou - 0745) Harry smiled and then chuckled. I'm like a poet, just with numbers and equations rather than words and prose."  Takeshi raised an eyebrow at the man. Did he really want to define the universe with a series of numbers? However complex they might be and maybe even beautiful, it couldn't possibly be better than just looking at the real thing. Looking at numbers couldn't possibly be better than looking out at space, seeing a vast expanse of the unknown. Or was that what it was all about? Is that what gave people a genuine love for math? Because it defined things in ways they could understand? Did the unknown and undefinable scare people so much that they had to go around trying to define everything in terms they could understand? ~So many questions, are there any answers? Ah, but answers simply breed more questions.~  Takeshi let none of these thoughts show in his body language or facial expression, with the exception of his original surprise. Instead he tried to change the subject. "So what do you think of this mission? Do you think well see any really action?" (Reply Doorman.) Christopher Black (Hades, Ten Forward - SciO Ensign Harry Doorman, 0748) Harry's exuberance for Mathematics was probably not shared by his new found compatriot. In fact, the man was inscrutable although Harry could detect the subtle emotional states of conflict as Takeshi considered his words. He must have reached some conclusion because his next question was one that completely changed the subject. "So what do you think of this mission? Do you think we'll see any real action?" He asked. "I hope not." Harry replied. "I've had my fill of violence. Between the Waagoshin and the strange hallucinations brought on by PX-1354, I'd like to have a fairly quiet mission charting stellar gas clouds or mapping pulsars for stellar cartographic references." He sighed and took a long sip of his now luke-warm coffee. "Besides, you haven't anything to worry about, If I know our luck, I'd say there's a high statistical probability that we'll run into something that will require your tactical and security expertise. Maybe Cardassians, or some first contact gone awry. It seems to be the indefinable norm around here." (reply Katsurou) Daniel Greene (USS Hades, CSO's Office, CSO/20 Bracken - 1132)  Harry reached the office in short order, since he was very close considering the relative location of the Astrometrics lab. The scientist took a deep breath, more to center himself than to calm any nerves. he then reached out an pressed the door chime. “Enter” Dale called out, her voice slightly distracted by the PADD that she’d all but finished reading. Harry stepped in through the open door and stopped before reaching the seats. "reporting as requested doctor Bracken, what can I do for you?"  “Harry, come in.” she smiled, and motioned to the seat opposite. “sit, please.” She pushed the PADD across the desk, it contained what little they knew about their destination. “I’m not certain if you know, but we’re headed toward this sector, primarily on a cartography mission,” she shrugged “what we know about the sector is contained on that PADD, i.e. not much. Your thoughts?” (Reply Doorman) Dale waved flippantly, “Dale please, when it’s just you and I Dale is fine, Lieutenant, Doctor, Second Officer? Sir? Makes me begin to wander how many people are sitting in this chair.” Her tone was whimsical, she hoped to dilute the gap in rank between them, she needed someone in her department that felt that they didn’t have to always be formal with her. (reply Doorman) “That was more-or-less my own analysis Harry, I’m glad we share a mind.” She paused, “I’d like you to help me head up the team that’s taking care of this as we get closer, use whatever resources you feel you need.” (Reply Doorman) (posted by Mark) (USS Hades - Holodeck 2 -ACMO Ensign Hawkeye Dolphine- 1021) "Why thank you...what do we have here?" She said as she wandered over to the holo-bio bed, looking at the...crispy critter that laid on it. "It's the newest cluster from starfleet medical. I thought this time I would call upon someone else to help me evaluate and make changes to the newest surgical conference. Who's your friend?" She watched the exchange between Wendy and Hawk, putting her head in her hands when Hawk acted as if the two never met. She knew he was utterly brilliant, but when it came to matters outside of medicine, he could leave a lot to be desired. He then turned his attention back to Angeni. "You get a choice, you can listen to the ten minute blabber of the EMH before this scenario starts or we can wing it, how much do you want to suffer before you play?" Hawkeye asked. "I think I know the general melody, but you may have to catch me up on the new notes." "And I gather that due to the staff meeting Chase isnt coming is he?" "Pretty much. I just want to peek my head in here before I wander off there. I would not want to annoy Commander Straton with my lateness now would I?" "Well then, shall we get started?" Hawkeye asked. "By all means," Wendy said, eagerly as she began to look over the situation. "After all the patient doesn't look like he's doing too well." "Please, Hawk, by all means take first chair on this one. Is it wet dressings or dry dressings today?" "Actually this time they are trying something new. They want to try therapuetic hypothermia on top of wet dressings prior to debreidment. What they want us to do this time, is attempt to cool them down and then start to treat the debriedment. The goal is to have the field medics begin rapid cooling prior to attaching initally dry dressings and then pour sterile water onto the dressings to superfically cool the b urning process." Hawkeye responded. "Of course...when with the Burn Association finally make a decision on which one they want. It's like the great Bicarb debate of the 1990's...first Bicarb cured all, then it didn't, then it did, then it didn't...what are we using now, centuries afterwards...Bicarb!" Angeni smiled as she picked up a nearby padd, scanning it over. She glanced at the particulars, furrowing her brow as she handed it to Wendy. "I'm ready to see how they think that is going to work...let's start, shall we?" "And I agree Ang. Im not 100 percent convinced at this time that SFMC hasnt suffered from a rectal cranial inversion. With that being said lets at least try to make to make this at least a fair treatment trial. To begin we need to rapidly decrease the core temp. At the same time, we are going to administer a high dose opoid anelgesic for pain management. I would reccomend an RSI procedure but I will leave that up to group decision. The only reason I would reccomend this is because I would be concerned with rapid airway compromise. While its true that survival rates with this kind of injury are slim to none, with slim being on vacation. I think in this we have a chance to restore some sort of normal life style to this patient. With that in mind Computer, begin threaputic trial 1 Alpha." A moment later the still life photo of a man with multiple third degree plasma burns came springing to life. The patient on the bio bed screamed out in pain. Hawkeye took only a moment before he began to bark out orders. "Report" Hawkeye asked from the simulated charge nurse. As the simulated nurse continued to give report Hawkeye noticed Angeni going straight for the airway supplies. ~Always one step ahead of me~ Hawkeye thought with a chuckle and a small smirk. "Very good. thank you, please have two of your nurses set up the OR Suite and begin cooling the suite to 90 degrees F. Please. Also retrieve 500 mcg Fentanyl into a hypospray. "Angeni, since your already a step ahead of my thought proccesses why dont you head over to the airway and begin RSI. Wnedy you want to go ahead and administer hypothermic Saline and try for a central IV if we dont have any vascular access left. Worse case scenerio is to use Ansthezine gas around a joint and insert and IO device into the femur or into the humeral head. I will begin applying the dressings and the superfical cooling of the burns. Lets go folks we got a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it in" Hawkeye directed to his collegues. (Reply Angeni, Wendy) "Angeni I know you have to move on to the staff meeting so what do you say we pause this simulation and resume around 2000 hours tonight sound good folks? This will give me some time to do a little bit more research into SFMC research and try to figure out where they want this to go?" (Reply Angnei) "Wendy If you have some free time around 1800, why dont you meet me in Ten Forward. I would like to be able to just sit and talk with my newest collegue before we really start getting into the thick of things? (Reply Wendy) "Good then its settled then. Ill see you then. Angeni Ill see you around 2000 right back here" Hawkeye said. "Computer freeze program and save. ENd Program" (Reply Angeni, Wendy) (Posted by Ben) (USS Hades- Counseling Offices - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 1149) The counselor's smile was infectious, as it clearly was genuine. Bohb found himself enjoying the woman's presence. Plus the fact that she had proper manners. He allowed her to sniff him, and returned the gesture. It was nice to find someone who was up to the task of a good sniff. Ripley's own scent was very sweet and fruity, with a slight hint of herbs and spices that one might use in spicey cooking. It was an interesting odor, which made Bohb wonder what she might eat for lunch. "I'm very glad that you've come to visit me commander." She stated formally. "In this office I prefer to remain less formal, but I don't want to be presumptive, so I'd like to know which form address you'd prefer we use today." Bohb nodded as he sat in a, what was most likely supposed to be a comfortable chair, and smiled. "As we are being informal, please call me Bohb. And how do your informal shipmates refer to yourself?" (reply Ripley) Bohb was a little uncertain how this was progressing. It would not be the first time that a shipmate had become enamored with the Magillan. But he was not the acting First Officer then. And there was that one incident that landed him in a lot of trouble with an ambassador. This might get a bit uncomfortable. He shifted in his seat a little and said, "So what would you like to talk about?" (reply Ripley) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades, Counseling Offices , COUNS, Ensign Anamitra Ripley, 1150)   "As we are being informal, please call me Bohb.  And how do your informal shipmates refer to yourself?" Bohb asked.   "By my first name, Ana or Anamitra, which ever you prefer, Bohb." She replied as the two of them selected chairs in the room.   She settled, noting that the commander had selected a chair that seemed to be ill fitting for his species. Still he was making an effort. He shifted in his seat a little and said, "So what would you like to talk about?"   "I've read your file of course, but I find them to be very impersonal and not at a good way to get to know someone." She began, but as he shifted again obviously in discomfort a second time Ana couldn't help herself. She stood and reached out and took him by the hand and helped out of the seat.   Once he was clear of it. She pushed it well out of the way and then said in a clear voice.   "Computer, reproduce one Migillan compatible chair in this space, preferably one highly rated for comfort."   [Working]   It took her only a moment to clear the area, before the chair shimmered into existence in the recently vacated area.   "There you go Bohb, that should be more comfortable for you. I apologize I didn't give your unique morphology any consideration. I assure you I won't make that misjudgment a second time."   Once he had settled into the holographic chair, she returned to her own. "Better?"  (reply Bohb)  "Good, now as we were saying before i so rudely interrupted myself" she said with a wink and a smile. "I was explaining some of the more boring ways that you could learn about someone, which were by reading a file or some other such nonsense. But I've always been much more keen on actually determining the worth and attributes of a person based on first-hand experiences. So, with that in mind, I was hoping that you'd tell me something about yourself, your people and your experiences in the fleet. Not the general mishmash of poorly recorded facts and opinions found in the databases, but the live, energetic and personal aspect of who you are and what makes you truly unique."   (reply Bohb) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Counseling Offices - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 1151 "Better?" the counselor asked after having the chair he was sitting on moments earlier changed into something more comfortable. The chair, first of all, was larger, and had multi-levels, so that he could sit in positions that did not require him to be completely erect. But it also gave him the opportunity to sit in more conventional manners if he desired. Which was his wish at this moment. It was pretty rare that others took the time to realize that the basic human form did not always suit other species. Bohb appreciated the thought. As he sat back and sighed he replied, "Much better, thank you Ana." Ana continued, saying how impersonal official files were, and how better it was to learn about people and their cultures by talking to them. "So, with that in mind, I was hoping that you'd tell me something about yourself," she said, "your people and your experiences in the fleet. Not the general mishmash of poorly recorded facts and opinions found in the databases, but the live, energetic and personal aspect of who you are and what makes you truly unique." Bohb smiled and leaned forward in his chair, holding on with left arm. "I completely agree. Learning about people from a file is, not only boring, but often inaccurate. There are often facts left out of a personnel file, for one reason or other, or there may be facts that are more emphasized than others which are not particularly important to that person. I am certain that the episode with the Denobulan delgate on Earth was not heralded in my file, but it certainly made an impression with me, and the way I conduct myself even today. However, that would be a story for a ... different time. I'm not certain that I'm ready to share it with someone I just met." He could sense the disappoint in the counselor's face, but he was certain that it would be a story that may mar their relationship for a long time. Besides, he was absolutely certain that there was no longer any video evidence of the incident. "However, I would be happy to share with you anything you'd like to know about the Magillan people. We really are not that complex a people. Our society is basically patriarchal by nature, and in such a society it us up to the females to do much of the real work. The men lead, and the women follow. Although that has been an area of contention for me, as I have always enjoyed the women's work. That is how I wound up in security. Security is female work." He smiled at the counselor, "I hope you don't feel less about me knowing that. My father certainly did. Although he might be appeased knowing that I now hold a command position." (reply Ana) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades- Counseling Offices - COUNS Ensign Anamitra Ripley- 1153) He smiled at the counselor, "I hope you don't feel less about me knowing that. My father certainly did. Although he might be appeased knowing that I now hold a command position." Ana gave him a warm smile. "Not at all commander. You may not realize this but I was raised in a Indo-eurasian Ethnic belief system. That is to say that the particular Ethic group to which I am accustomed comes from the indian subcontinent on earth. My Grandfather, although is a traditionalist, which means he believes in a certain very outmoded concept known as the caste system. " "This means, in human cultural terms that a person is born into a certain level of society when they come into the world. They are destined to remain within that caste regardless of their dreams or aspirations. They are discouraged from speaking with, marrying, or associating with people of a caste below their own." "So in a sort of strange twist of fate I understand exactly what you mean, especially since women were considered a lesser part of mankind there." "I had the fortune to be born into a fairly high caste, one reserved for academics, poets, artists and musicians. It prevented a digression of personal beliefs at the formative stages in my life. It wasn't until I was considered an adult that I realized that I was allowing myself to be bound by a set of strictures that were obsolete, and that a person was not defined by their caste or function, but by their deeds." "I like you went against my grandfather's beliefs. I decided to stop studying music and art and to pursue my own path in counseling. For a long time I felt as if I would be shunned for breaking out of the role that my society proscribed for me, but i've come to accept the fact that I am different, and by being different I am contributing in a grand manner to the betterment of my entire culture. I will experience things that other people within my caste will not. I can therefore rely on a more unique pool of experience to shape my being. I can experience things that others would be afraid to try and I can find my own place in the universe rather than have someone confine me to the path that they choose." "In the end everyone will be forced to confront my decision. I will make them question their beliefs, I will help them to decide if those beliefs should change and I will help them to grow as individuals because through my actions and deeds, they will be exposed to new thoughts and ideas that they may not have otherwise experienced." (reply Bohb) Daniel Greene (USS Hades - Conduit Junction Rho-Mu - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 14:27) Eoin put the spanner back into the tool kit, and hit his commbadge. "Mac Liam to Wright. That should do it. Give it a try." (reply Wright) Eoin smiled as he heard both the good result and power once again flowing properly through the conduit. "That's done it. I'm on my way back then." (reply Wright IYW) (USS Hades - Main Engineering - CEO Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1430)   =^=Mac Liam to Wright. That should do it. Give it a try.=^= Eion's voice reported over the commbadge pinned to her uniform top.   Darla reached up and tapped her commbadge. "Understood, Eion. Standby for us to power up the conduit."   Once she received the go ahead, she turned and gave the attending project monitoring engineer a single nod. "Whenever you're ready." she added.   "Aye, sir powering up the conduit exchangers now." he reported as he tapped the commands into the console. A moment later the MDS showed the repaired conduit in the green. The power flow was running smoothly as it should be without any signs of thermal degradation.   "Wright to Mac Liam, we're showing the conduit green and steady. Good work." she said, allowing the smile on her face to spread into her voice.   =^= That's done it. I'm on my way back then.=^=   (USS Hades - Main Engineering - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 14:40) Eoin jumped out of the Jeffries Tubes, and stretched, after spending several hours cramped in there. He smiled, and looked for Lt. Wright. He found her at a station near the warp core. "I'm back. What's next on the docket?" (reply Wright, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Hades - Main Engineering - CEO Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1442)   Darla was monitoring the warp core when Eion made it back to the compartment. She had the thought that her protégé was becoming a damned good engineer and that he seemed to be taking on a broader leadership role as he became more confident and experienced in the field.   "I'm back what's next on the docket?" he asked with a smiling voice and Darla couldn't help but catch that smile and allow it to spread across her own face.   She held up her PADD as if to inspect it and purposefully frowned. "Well the plasma manifold assemblies in D-section are coming up on their refurbishment and scrub cycle. If you're game?" she teased him.   Before he could answer, she kept going, "What about a waste reclamation repair on deck twenty two in the biomatter storage tanks?"   (reply Eion)   This time she gave him an opportunity to answer and laughed at his apparent consternation with the situation.   "Relax, I'm just kidding." she finally said, the smile broadening. "I wouldn't waste your talent on something so mundane. I've got a report of a non-descript glitch in the transporter in Transporter room two. I've closed it off for now, but I'd like to have you take a look at it and see if we can get it repaired so that it's a very small blip on the ship's status report that I have to send to the captain at 1800. You can take Valanar. I understand that he's had plenty of experience with transporters."   (reply Eion) Daniel Greene   (USS Hades, Bridge - ATAC Takeshi Katsurou - 1552) =/\=Trinin to T'Sol and Katsurou.=/\= Takeshi was looking over the sectors they were going to be patrolling for the next few days. If they did get into a fight he hoped he could balance out his lack of experience with a bit of knowledge. Takeshi tapped his commbadge. "Yes Sir?" =/\=Just verifying that you are standing by for the 1630 meeting with the first officer.=/\= "I am Sir, thank you for the reminder." =/\=Very good. Sorry to be so anxious. Trinin out.=/\= "Not a Problem Sir. Thank you." Takeshi tapped his commbadge once more to terminate the channel and smiled. It almost seemed like Trinin was a bit on edge. Having a strict captain was all good and fine, but maybe this new FO being a bit strict was overdose? Or was it the fact that he appeared to be a 7 foot tall Gorilla? ~Or you could just be someone who is over analysing the situation and it is just the fact of dealing with a new officer.~ (Reply none.) Christopher Black (USS Hades- Security Office - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 15:58) "Commander, welcome to the security offices of the Hades. I'd offer to show you around but I'm afraid that there isn't much to see here. They look like every other security offices on every other Federation starship. you can, of course explore them later at your discretion commander. Shall we retire to my office?" Bohb nodded. He knew exactly what Trinan was saying, having come up through the ranks in security himself. And this security office did, indeed, look quite similar to his last assignment on the Escalade. "Thank you Lieutenant," he said, "that would be fine. Although I should warn you that I am not quite at the retirement age." (reply Trinan) Bohb followed Trinan to his office and sat in the offered seat. When Trinan sat down across from him Bohb began. "First of all, Lieutenant, let me tell you that I have seen your service record, and am duly impressed. But I do have a concern. It is on record that you are only the 'acting' Tactical Chief and Chief of Security, and that you have beenso, at least since Captain Devan Sash was CO. Is there a reason you have not accepted the post in a more permanent basis?" (reply Trinan) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades, Security Offices, CSEC/CTAC, Lt. Baylon Trinin, 1602)   "Thank you Lieutenant," he said, "that would be fine.  Although I should warn you that I am not quite at the retirement age."   Baylon blinked. Twice. "I'm sorry commander?" He replied slightly confused and then it dawned on him.   The Betazoid security chief chuckled slightly before continuing. "I didn't mean retirement as in old age or for service. There's a second meaning to the word in standard. I'm not dictionary, but it means to change locations, usually in favor of one that is more private."   They entered his office and Baylon wasn't going to bother to offer the commander a chair as it had already filtered down through the grape-vine that standard chairs were somewhat uncomfortable for members of his species, however, it quickly became apparent that it was expected and so Baylon capitulated to the inevitable.   "First of all, Lieutenant, let me tell you that I have seen your service record, and am duly impressed.  But I do have a concern.  It is on record that you are only the 'acting' Tactical Chief and Chief of Security, and that you have been so, at least since Captain Devan Sash was CO.  Is there a reason you have not accepted the post in a more permanent basis?" Bohb began.   ~Rough one straight out of the gate~ Baylon thought.   "Actually Sir, that's not entirely correct." Baylon corrected. "There was a period of time in which I was relieved of my position as acting Chief in favor of Lieutenant T'Vof who is not currently assigned here."   "After Captain Sash was killed by the Waagoshin, I underwent some mental trauma that left me unable to fulfill the duties with which I had been entrusted. I became somewhat dependent upon Andorian Whiskey and as a result I allowed the efficiency of the tactical and security departments to slide."   "Captain Straton relieved me of those duties and I was assigned to counseling and rehabilitation. I've since faced all those fears and come out of the difficulties a reformed person; stronger for having experienced them. I am only once again acting in the capacity as Chief Tactical and Security Officer because I have somehow managed to regain a degree of the captain's trust after my abhorrent behavior."   "The fact was that a senior officer was needed to run the department in Lieutenant T'Vof's absence and I happened to be the most qualified, despite my personal setbacks. If those details were not in my file, then I suspect that Captain Straton has her reasons for such and I leave it to you to inquire with her further on the matter."   "To further expound on that explanation sir. There is one other important factor to consider. That is the single fact that a permanent placing has not been offered to me."   (reply Bohb) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Security Office - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 1604) Bohb nodded at the Tactical and Security Chief. "Indeed, that might have to be remedied. How do feel about sharing the duties of Tactical and Security. I did not always believe those roles to be self inclusive. I was considering splitting the duties. Would you have a problem with that?" (reply Trinin) Bobhb continued, "I just feel that the Security Chief should be able to focus on the job of ships security, especially in times of duress. In the same vein, the Tactical Chief should be focused on the job of ships tactics in battle. Which job would you consider yourself to be most adapted for?" (reply Bohb) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades- Security Office CSEC/CTAC Lt. Baylon Trinin, 1605) "Indeed, that might have to be remedied. How do feel about sharing the duties of Tactical and Security. I did not always believe those roles to be self inclusive. I was considering splitting the duties. Would you have a problem with that?" "No Sir." Baylon replied, "In fact, It's been divided and recombined on several occasions based upon the availability of certified personnel and the commanding officer's preferences. If there a particular reason that you would prefer the positions separated?" Bohb continued, "I just feel that the Security Chief should be able to focus on the job of ships security, especially in times of duress. In the same vein, the Tactical Chief should be focused on the job of ships tactics in battle. Which job would you consider yourself to be most adapted for?" Baylon smiled. "Truthfully, I prefer security. I'm a man of action as my record attests. I prefer to be face to face with a threat rather than behind a console, although I wouldn't argue with either posting. If I were to choose, however, security would be my first choice, sir." "We have several candidates that I feel would fulfill either roll to your satisfaction. I would be glad to put together a short list for your consideration if you'd like?" (reply Bohb) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Sickbay - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 18:00) Bohb never truly understood the reluctance of humans to have a routine physical examination. After all, unless they were expecting bad news, what was the problem, other than the loss of productivity, which usually wasn't a concern with most humans, considering the amount of recreation time that they had. If they were expecting bad news from the doctor why would they want to avoid them. wouldn't they want to receive treatment for an ailment as soon as possible? It just didn't make sense. As Bohb entered sickbay the first thing that always struck him was the smell of antiseptic. It made him crinkle his nose a bit. It didn't actually bother hi, but the suddenness of it caught him off guard. Bohb looked around the department for a moment until he caught sight of Dr. Windsong-Trommashere. He couldn't help but worry over the length of her name. It was certainly a mouthful. He made his way over to the doctor and made an attempt to clear his throat. "Dr. Windsong-Trommashere, I am here for my examination." (reply Angeni) (posted by Al muir) (USS Hades, Security Office, MXO, Major Kgrik, 0800) Kgrik walked into the security offices and looked around the room. "Where might I find Lt. Trinin or Ensign Katsurou?" Kgrik asked the first person he encountered. The crewman pointed at an office door and Kgrik nodded in appreciation as he moved toward the TAC\SC's office. "Lt. Trinin," Kgrik said, as he arrived at the door of the office. (Reply Trinin) Kgrik entered the office and held out the PADD he was carrying. "The marines will be doing an anti-boarding training exercise later today. Colonel Drizzt and I fell it would be beneficial if the marines and security departments were to make this a joint training exercise. Would you and Ensign Katsurou as well as members of your department be interested in joining the Wolf Pack in this training exercise?" (Reply Trinin, Katsurou if present, Any) (Posted by Wes) (USS Hades- Security Offices CSEC/CTAC Lt. Baylon Trinin, 0805) Baylon was wading through the night duty reports when there was a glint of moment at the corner of his eye. He had turned his chair towards the only window in his office, one that allowed him to watch the spectrum of stars as they streaked by the hull of the starship, stretched by the affects of the warp drive. He turned his chair to see the Marine MXO, Major Kgrik standing in his doorway. As soon as the major realized that Baylon had seen him, he spoke, "Lt. Trinin." "Yes major. What can i do for you?" Baylon asked and gestured for the man to enter and if he so desired assume the empty chair opposite the Security Chief. "The marines will be doing an anti-boarding training exercise later today. Colonel Drizzt and I fell it would be beneficial if the marines and security departments were to make this a joint training exercise.  Would you and Ensign Katsurou as well as members of your department be interested in joining the Wolf Pack in this training exercise?" Baylon personally had very little love for Starfleet marines as a whole, although he himself had once been in their ranks. Any love for that august body had died when they had allowed themselves to be used as an instrument by a tyrant to forcibly subdue several planetary populations during the Federation Civil War. Although there were some marines that actually upheld their oaths, such as the wolfpack and the 1st marine Expeditionary Forces, for the most part baylon believed that most marines were nothing more than mindless minions wearing advanced combat gear eager to slaughter innocents at the drop of a word. But the Wolf Pack, wasn't a contemporary of those marines. In fact they were the few organizations of the starfleet marines that baylon still respected, and as such, he was quick to reign in any ill-feeling he might have towards any other 'marines' when dealing with any of their membership. "What time today, major?" Baylon asked. "It's short notice and I personally have a great deal on my plate today. Although I can probably spare a couple of squads and Ensign Katsurou should he not have other obligations." (Reply Kgrik) Daniel Greene (USS Hades, Security Office, MXO, Major Kgrik, 0806) Kgrik's tail waged lazily as he stood in front of the SEC's desk before taking the offered seat. "What time today, major?" Baylon asked. "It's short notice and I personally have a great deal on my plate today. Although I can probably spare a couple of squads and Ensign Katsurou should he not have other obligations." "1400, if that is acceptable," Kgrik replied as one of his ears twitched. There had been a subtle change in Lt. Trinin's body posture when Kgrik had mentioned the join training exercise as if he were reluctant to accept the invitation for some reason. ~I wonder what the problem is?~ Kgrik wondered, but then it really wasn't much a concern for him. If the Security Chief proved to be problematic to the marines mission of protecting the ship and carrying out the Captain's orders then he was sure Colonel Drizzt would address the problem with the Captain Straton. (Reply Trinin, Any) (posted by Wes) (USS Hades- Security Offices CSEC/CTAC Lt. Baylon Trinin, 0810) "1400, if that is acceptable," Kgrik replied. "Well no time like the present to find out." Baylon replied as he tapped his commbadge. "Trinin to Katsurou." (reply Katsurou) "Mister Kasturou, I have just been informed that the Marine's Wolf Pack unit will be conducting anti-boarding training at 1400 on the Helldeck. Major Kgrik is in my office currently. He and I both believe that it would be an excellent opportunity for some of the Security squads to work closely with the marines to better understand their tactics and methodology. I won't be available to participate because of a glut of work I'm handling for the new First officer, but I was hoping that you wouldn't be too busy to participate. Do you have the time to lead a squad on the exercise?" (reply Katsurou) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Main Engineering - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 09:01) Bohb could smell Zzt long before the huge Geratlian burst onto the scene. The bear like creature put off a strong, pungent odor that was hard to miss. He wondered how the humans that worked around him did not notice it. "Coomender Boob! Lt. Rit!" It took Bohb a moment before he realized that Zzt's open arms was a greating rather than an attack. Then a massive paw patted him on the top of the head. "How you dis mooning?" "Well, thank you commander Zzt." Darla replied with a still happy expression. "Although I just realized that I don't think we'll all be able to fit in my office." Wright suggested that they move the meeting to the secondary relay control compartment. "Is that alright with you sir?" Bohb nodded, uncertain of the spatial difference. However it soon clear that the compartment was twice the size of the CEO's office. They managed to pile in to the room and each found a place to be. Bohb looked from Wright to Zzt and back to Wright. "Lt. Wright, Commander Zzt, I understand that there have been a lot of adjustments to the Hades since it has left dry dock. I'd kind of like a run down of what modifications have been made to the warp engines and to the shields. I'd also like to get some evalution of the the ships tri-vector mode, and how it has been used." (reply Wright, Zzt) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades- Main Engineering - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 09:02) Bohb's head was already beginning to hurt from the technical information he had just heard. He was, by no means, proficient in engineering speak, however, he was able to perform basic repairs if needed. The types of modifications that had been made were beyond basic engineering. "Thank you for the thoroughness you have already provided," Bohb said. "I do not believe a more complete explanation would ... help. Do you both believe that this ship is the best running ship that the 52nd has to offer?" (reply Wright) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades, Main Engineering, CEO Lt. Darla Wright, 0905)   Once they had settled into the Auxiliary control room  Bohb looked from Wright to Zzt and back to Wright.  "Lt. Wright, Commander Zzt, I understand that there have been a lot of adjustments to the Hades since it has left dry dock.  I'd kind of like a rundown of what modifications have been made to the warp engines and to the shields.  I'd also like to get some evaluation of the ship's tri-vector mode, and how it has been used."   Darla gave Commander Zzt a moment to answer and when the information was not immediately forthcoming, she decided to jump in both feet first.   "Well commander, that's a tall order so let me just give you the basics." She began and then started ticking things off on her fingers.   "Since we returned from Tch'Kairn space we've made roughly sixty-two modifications and upgrades to the warp systems. We've replaced three of the primary warp coils, two port side, one starboard, because the temporal shift put us way behind on our maintenance cycle replacement schedule. The secondary portside injectors were refurbished to the new SFMTO-25I standards as were the Primary starboard injector assemblies, the remaining assemblies are scheduled to be refurbished and reconditioned at the next long-term layover at a qualified QS-9002B capable station."   "Then there's the crystal dilation matrix that has been newly installed in the Attenuation assembly. That, along with a new muon corrosion resistant shielding reactor shell constitute the majority of the Warp chamber upgrades. Then the Warp core reactor taps were replaced last cycle with the new 6603-Yoyodyne Model upgrades. We've refurbished the auxiliary core magnetic constrictors for the containment field and well as NDT'd the isomolecular coating to the new XF91 standards now in use by the fleet. Those were the bulk of the primary Warp system modifications and upgrades, with several smaller modifications and upgrades if you want me to go into more detail."   (reply Bohb)   "As for the Shields, we've magnaligned the new gravimetric isolators so that the field flow dynamics are now more coherent after we installed the field flux capacitor relays and the temporal signal buffer that is now part of the primary initiator sequencer."   She took a breath and smiled inwardly at herself before continuing. "Then of course there were the reinforcements made to the sheer housings and the dynamo housings to allow us to utilize the newer DECS-22 subprocessor assembly and the GH-22 Microreactionary power relay monitoring system."   She looked at Zzt, whom she knew was about to expound on everything that she had just said once she voiced the next question.  "Commander Zzt, here handled a great deal of the refits and modifications to those systems at the design and implementation stages." She looked at Zzt and said simply, "Would you care to add anything commander?  I know that the modifications were much more extensive than those I mentioned."   (reply Zzt, Bohb) Daniel Greene (USS Hades, Main Engineering, ATT Lt. Commander Zzt, 0907) Zzt followed Lt. Wright and Commander Bohb into the Auxiliary control room and watched as they both took a seat in one of the chairs in the room. Zzt licked his fangs and then took a seat on the floor in one corner of the room. As soon as he sat down he noticed something jabbing him in the rear but tried to ignore it as Commander Bohb asked them about all the modifications that had been done to the Hades. Zzt fidgeted a little trying to relieve the annoying and slightly painful jabbing sensation in his rear. He listened as Lt. Wright launched into an explanation of the modifications done to the warp engines and shield systems. ~A rudimentary explanation.~ Zzt thought as he fidgeted again trying to get comfortable but the sharp jabbing sensation wouldn't go away. Frustrated, Zzt leaned forward and reached a paw down between his legs and under his rump. Blindly he searched the spot of the floor he was sitting on for whatever was jabbing him. "Commander Zzt, here handled a great deal of the refits and modifications to those systems at the design and implementation stages." Lt. Wright said as she looked at Zzt and said simply, "Would you care to add anything commander? I know that the modifications were much more extensive than those I mentioned." "Huh?" Zzt said looking up, "Oh. Yes. One mooment." Zzt moved his paw around under him till he found the offending item and pulled it out. Zzt easily recognized the item, it was something all engineers carried in their tool kit. Zzt sniffed the tool, his keen sense of smell easily detecting the scent of the last person to handle the tool. "Crewman Boodsnick lose him micro-welder again," Zzt said handing the tool to Lt. Wright. (Reply Wright IYW) Zzt then turned his attention back to the new First Officer as he opened his mouth to speak the new FO spoke first. "Thank you for the thoroughness you have already provided," Bohb said. "I do not believe a more complete explanation would ... help. Do you both believe that this ship is the best running ship that the 52nd has to offer?" "Course," Zzt said a little confused. He looked at Lt. Wright and then back to Commander Bohb. "Why it not be? Not that Zzt much involved in day to day running of ship, but happy help when asked. All systems be above Fleet requirements." A confused look came over Zzt's face and he looked back at Lt. Wright. "or they use be. Coomander Boob know something Zzt not?" (Reply Bohb, Wright, Any) (posted by Wes) (USS Hades, Main Engineering, CEO Lt. Darla Wright, 0908) "Crewman Boodsnick lose him micro-welder again," Zzt said handing the tool which was apparently an irritation to her massive shipmate to Darla. Her face blushed a little at the indication that her people might be seen as forgetful, despite her best efforts. "Ah...yes.. Thank you commander." she replied as she accepted the device a little leery about the fact that Zzt had just pulled it out from under his formidable haunches. The esteemed shipmate then turned his attention back to the new First Officer but as he opened his mouth to speak the new FO spoke first. "or they use be. Coomander Boob know something Zzt not?" Darla shrugged at Zzt's question. She had always assumed that she ran a tight Engineering department. was there some indication that she had overlooked something? Was Commander Bohb's statement in any way indicative of some oversight of which he was aware that she was not? "I don't know of any reason to believe that we're not the finest running ship in the fleet. But I'm the CEO. I'm going to be more likely to tell you that we are the best in the fleet, despite the fact that I don't regularly check the engineering efficiency reports of other ship's engineering departments in the fleet. Is this something that I should start doing, sir?" (reply Bohb, Zzt) Daniel Greene (USS Hades – CSO’s Office – CSO Bracken – 1000) Dale leant back in her seat at the sizable desk in front of her. She’d cleared the stack of PADD’s that the morning had brought. One thing had been made clear by one or requisitions for more hands in the astrometrics department.  One had come from a senior NCO via one of the duty officers in charge. Dale leant back and drained the coffee that had become part of her ritual for this time of the morning. Her eyes narrowed slightly in thought. The team needed direction, more correctly she thought, the NCO techs needed direction. She tapped her commbadge. “Bracken to Mestral, report to my office please.” (Reply Mestral)  (USS Hades – Mestal's Quarters – CPO Mestral – 10:01) =/\=Bracken to Mestral, report to my office please.=/\= Mestral had been meditating. When he opened his eyes, he had noticed that the candle that was in front of him had gone out. As such, this interruption did not bother him, seeing as he was due in the science department in a few minutes anyway. "On my way," he said, tapping his commbadge while he got up from the place he had been kneeling. Making sure that all the other candles were out, he left his quarters and headed for the science department. (USS Hades – CSO’s Office – CSO Bracken – 1010) “Enter” Dale looked up as the Vulcan CPO entered the room. She smiled slightly, and motioned to the seat opposite, “sit, please” (Reply Mestral  IYW) “As I’m certain you’re aware the next few days are going to be all kinds of interesting, seems that the techs in astrometrics are going to need some…direction? We’ve got a couple of inexperienced enlisted crew who may not be up to what you or I…expect?” She purposely placed him alongside her in the sentence, as she was all too aware that once an enlisted crewman reached CPO then they really did all bit run most of the department. (Reply Mestral) "I'd like you to supervise the efforts of the techs, liase with Ensign Doorman. There's no reason that with your direction that by tomorrow we can be up to your standard...and mine." she chose her words carefully, suggesting that her own expectations were just as high as the vulcan's, perhaps higher. (reply Mestral) (Posted by mark) (USS Hades – CSO’s Office – CPO Mestral – 10:11) Mestral walked into the science department, nodding curtly to his colleagues. He made his way straight to Dr. Bracken's office, and hit the doorchime. “Enter.” The response came almost immediately, as if she had anticipated it. Mestral walked into the office. He stood at parade rest, waiting for Dr. Bracken to address him. “Sit, please.” "Thank you, ma'am." Mestral took a seat across from Dr Bracken, sitting straight-backed with this legs crossed. “As I’m certain you’re aware the next few days are going to be all kinds of interesting, seems that the techs in astrometrics are going to need some…direction? We’ve got a couple of inexperienced enlisted crew who may not be up to what you or I…expect?” Mestral nodded. "Fresh recruits always need a push in the right direction, regardless what basic training has taught them. It is rather illogical that they do not get more training on an actual ship. However, that is irrelevant at this juncture. What is it that you require of me?" "I'd like you to supervise the efforts of the techs, liase with Ensign Doorman. There's no reason that with your direction that by tomorrow we can be up to your standard...and mine." "Understood, ma'am. Was there anything else you needed of me? (reply Bracken, room for more) "Very well. I shall go and fine Ensign Doorman." (reply Bracken, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Hades - Science Department - CPO Mestral - 10:15) Mestral had looked around the main science stations, but to no avail of finding Ensign Doorman. He decided to tap his communicator in order to find him. "Mestral to Ensign Doorman." (reply Doorman) "Ensign, Dr. Bracken has asked the two of us to liase and supervise the new recruits in stellar cartography. When would be a good time to meet with you to that end?" (reply Doorman, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Hades- Particle Flow Lab- SciO- Ensign Harry Doorman – 1020) Harry stood patiently to the left side of Doctor Abigail carter as she input the last of the data that he had provided for her model. He wasn't entirely convinced that the propagation rates would achieve the end result that she was hoping for, but it wasn't his place to figure out how to retro-engineer a formulae to account for a result, it was his purpose to define mathematically the series of variables that came together in a particular model and put together an equation that would allow them to visualize the theories to see if they supported the suspected hypothesis. They ask him to create a model that will include gravitational flux, atomic decay ratio and thermal dynamic fluid principles and then look for mathematical errors. that meant that they already had a series of variables in mind and that once his model was completed, they'd plug in their variables and see if their theories yielded the fruit that they expected. Harry was only here to watch for mathematical errors as the system modeled the variables and if possible explain them in a way that the scientist could understand. "Okay, all the data is input. Stand by to run the modeling simulation." Doctor Carter stated, the level of excitement in her voice was almost tangible. "Ready when you are doctor?" Her aide replied. "As am I", Harry added. "Then start the sequence." The lights dropped out of the room completely and then an image of Magnetar PX-1354 appeared to blossom into existence over the surface of the holographic modeling table. The long strands of plasma, warped by the rigid and strained lines of magnetic force danced across the surface and into the corona of the neutron star. They were gloriously beautiful in their complexity, dancing, merging and dividing as the lines mingled, diverged or snapped under the constant strain. Wisps of holographic stellar plasma even fired off into holographic space from time to time, marking the realism of the model that harry had helped to create. "That's amazing." someone muttered, but all Harry could do was nod dumbly before forcing his attentions back down to the display screen. "Okay, initiating the variables you specified Doctor." He replied as he activated the modeling programs full functionality. The magnetar shifted very little visually, but the data hovering nearby that marked the radioactive and elemental changes taking place in the core of the magnetar shifted wildly as the model's accelerated timeline took over. Within the span of two minutes, the model had completed it's run. "No Cobalt." Some one stated in a disappointed sigh of air. "The formulae?" Carter asked. "No anomalies detected at the surface inspection. I'll go in and see if I can find any imbalances when i tear apart the data logs." Harry replied. "I was so certain that I was close." Carter said in self-defense. "You are getting closer," Harry replied, you've now found another means by which the process failed to take place. This increases the odds hat your next attempt is successful." Abigail started to respond, but she just frowned when Harry's commbadge chirped. "One moment doctor. Hold that thought." Harry said as he listened to the hail. =^= Mestral to Ensign Doorman=^= ~Mestral....Mestral....~ Harry turned the name over in his head twice, trying hard to figure out if he knew the caller. In the end he simply gave up. He tapped his communicator. "Doorman here, go ahead." =^=Ensign, Dr. Bracken has asked the two of us to liase and supervise the new recruits in stellar cartography. When would be a good time to meet with you to that end?=^= Harry frowned. No one had said anything to him about supervising anyone. It wasn't exactly something that he was good at. Thus the reason he was still an ensign after 8 years of service in the fleet. "uhhhhh." He replied, "How about 1300 hours?" (reply Mestral) (USS Hades- CSO's Office- SciO- Ensign Harry Doorman – 1134) “Harry, come in.” Dale smiled, and motioned to the seat opposite. “sit, please.” Harry stepped into the office and gave the seat a short glance before settling into it. He somehow felt as if he was about to be chastised, although that feeling was completely unfounded in every way. Doctor Bracken pushed a PADD across the desk. Harry picked it up grateful that it was an assignment rather than some sort of reprimand. "I’m not certain if you know, but we’re headed toward this sector, primarily on a cartography mission," she shrugged "what we know about the sector is contained on that PADD, i.e. not much. Your thoughts?" He glanced down and realized that dale wasn't even kidding when she had said not much. There was a little more than two digital pages of data to read through. "You said primarily on a cartography mission. That means that there is a secondary objective, Doctor?" he asked. Dale waved flippantly, “Dale please, when it’s just you and I Dale is fine, Lieutenant, Doctor, Second Officer? Sir? Makes me begin to wander how many people are sitting in this chair.” Her tone was sincere enough and Harry didn't mind being informal with her, in fact he preferred it. "I understand...Dale." the word tasted strange in his mouth. "I guess what i was getting at, is this is easily something that Stellar cartography can handle as normal. But since Chief Mestral has already contacted me about supervising the newer members of the crew there, and since I'm not particularly well-knwon for my supervisory powers or my team building acumen, I can only assume that you're looking for some sort of patterns or maybe a mathematical problem that needs defining?" Then a thought struck him, "Unless we're worried about looking for starships that could be problematic. Something cloaked or unusual that's going to disturb the surrounding space very little. Enough so that a mathematician might see it where a newer officer may not?" he inquired, knowing that he was well outside the bounds of his normal thinking, primarily since his expertise was not theorizing. “That was more-or-less my own analysis Harry, I’m glad we share a mind.” She paused, “I’d like you to help me head up the team that’s taking care of this as we get closer, use whatever resources you feel you need.” He then understood her request. They were going to conduct their normal scans, mapping gravity shears, subspace turbulence and stellar cartography. But all the while Doctor bracken was hoping that Harry Doorman the pattern-recognizing mathematician might notice something else. decayed warp trails, ion concentrations or field interruptions that would detail starship travel through the sector. He was being asked to determine traffic analysis in the hopes of identifying the frequency, type and traffic that had moved through the area. Any manufactured condition that had altered the background normal in any way possible. It was the perfect job for a perfectionist mathematician, and one that he actually found might be interesting to perform. "I see." Harry said as he wrestled with the implications of the scope of his orders. "I can certainly put myself and the others to the task, Dale. It sounds intriguing actually. I've never tried extrapolating that sort of data from the background norms like that before." (reply Mestral, Bracken) Daniel Greene (USS Hades - Holodeck 2 - CE 3rd Lieutenant Aren Aderyn - 12:05) Aren walked into the holodedck, and began thinking. ~We're entering a region where we're likely to run into Cardassians. Who knows what's going to happen there? Better be prepared for anything.~ "Computer, what is the primary Federation planet in Sector 225?" [The primary Federation outpost in Sector 225 is Acadia Nova.] "Access survey data for Acadia Nova, and generate an average environment from that planet, 1 square kilometer." [Working.] In the meantime, Aren addressed the computer's communications protocol. "Send a message to all crew members. Tell them that I am running a combat simulation in Holodeck 2. Any interested may join." [Message sent. Survey results tabulated, and environment generated.] With a flicker of the holographic projectors, Aren found himself standing in the middle of a deciduous forest, apparently the kind that characterised Acadia Nova. He glanced at the map, and then put it in one of the many pouches hanging on his belt. "Computer, generate a random amount of Cardassian opponents, standard issue armour and weapons, scattered across the environment." The computer chirped along as it worked, and then stated, [Request complete.] "Then, run simulation." He reached for a rag in his tool kit. Wiping his hands and face, he put it back where it was, and closed up the toolkit. Walking back to equipment storage, Eoin ran into the new ACEO. So far, they hadn't had much interaction, but from what Eoin read about him, he seemed like an interesting character. He smiled at the Betazoid, and said hello. (reply Valanar) "I'm doing well. Just regular maintenance today. Nothing like yesterday having to rewire an entire conduit. That was brutal." (reply Valanar) "Anyway, I realised just now that I don't really know that much about you. But since we're going to be working together, I want to get to know you. Feel like getting some lunch?" (reply Valanar, any) (posted by Spencer) (USS Hades- CSO"s Office – CSO/2O Bracken – 14:40)   "Really," he said, "I would have thought that was the best part, reading all of those interesting ideas of your staff.  Or perhaps their projects are not all that interesting.  Which is one of the reasons that I am here.  Not to see of their projects are interesting, but to hear what projects are being worked on and how they are progressing. You don't have to go into too much detail, if you don't wish to, however, I do enjoy hearing about science projects."   Dale realised that she hadn’t worded things properly, or perhaps that the meaning had become lost somewhere in…translation? She struggled for the correct word.   “lots of interest things at the moment.”she hit a quick command that brought the large display on the wall to life, its image changing after a moment from the fleet science logo to the magnetar that had been their last destination.   “This is dominating us at the moment. PX 1354.  A class II magnetar that was nearing the end of its life. Stellar chemistry showed no abnormalities, Showed that the core had reached the manganese phase, and was beginning to synthesise Iron-56, which should have caused the star to end it’s life in the normal manner.”   (reply Bohb IYW)   She hit another key, the screen changed to display a mass spectra, “only it didn’t.” One of the peaks in the graph highlighted after a moment or two.   “This element, was detected an hour after the star should have ended its life. Cobalt-60. It has absolutely no place in the stellar system at all. No star in the known universe should be able to synthesise anything of a higher mass than iron 56.”   (Reply Bohb)   “Absolutely no idea.” She sighed. “and…you’ll perhaps discover this of me, I’m usually able to come up with something, no matter how unusual or creative. We’ve had the stellar chemists, astrometrics and most of the physics team running simulation after simulation, all to no avail.   (reply Bohb)   She smiled, and sipped her coffee. “Now this you may like,” another screen flickered up to show a creature, of miniscule proportions, unlike anything seen on earth, though resembling a mite if anything else.   “Xenobiology isn’t my strong point, far from it, but the xenobiology team are enthralled. A species of creatures, that exist in such extremes of temperature and pressure that we previously thought that it was impossible for even bacteria to exist, let alone something as complex as this, we’re only just beginning to understand how it manages to exist.”   (Reply Bohb) (posted by Mark)   (USS Hades- Bridge- aFO- Lt. He knew that, eventually he was going to have to be trained on the THIS system for the tri-vector mode. He wasn't sure if he was dreading it or looking forward to it. They ship had come out of warp as they entered their patrol area, briefly, and then with the patrol coordinates plotted went back to a slower warp speed. There had been some sensor hits for Cardassian ships, and Bohb was helping with the tactical analysis of those ships. It wasn't long until they arrived at their first stop of an uncharted star system that they were to map out, and the captain called for the ship to slow down to impulse speed. She asked Bracken for any signs of pre-warp civilizations. Bohb only paid attention peripherally. However, his attention peeked when he heard Ensign Serpal announce an incoming priority mission. "I'll take it in my Ready Room," Straton replied. "Commander Bohb, you have the COMM continue the sweep through the system until ordered otherwise." "Aye Captain," Bohb replied as he stood, watching the captian head to her Ready Room. Once the door closed he began to pace the bridge. "Please send a copy of the data stream from the sensor sweeps and the probe to my station Lt. Bracken." (reply Bracken) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades, Bridge, CSEC/CTAC, Lt. Baylon Trinin, 1650)  Baylon was busy comparing known Cardassian warp signatures compiled by Starfleet Intelligence with those that the Hades had detected on long range scans.  The computer had, of course narrowed down the list of potential starships to a manageable level, providing him with a list of a few ships that had similar if not exact matches.  One of the three was a cut-and-dried case of easy identification. The other two were less so clear cut. It seemed that they were likely newer Galor-class variations that had undergone recent warp coil replacements.  It was a funny thing when you thought about it, only because Baylon could tell exactly where those particular coils had been manufactured by slight deviation in their field harmonics that was amplified in their warp signature. It was this unique fingerprint that allowed the easy long-range identification of a starship.  "Captain, I've a positive identification on one of the Cardassian vessels. It is a Galor-class variant, type III. The ship is named the Remat and according to Starfleet Intelligence data acquired within the last two standard months, it is commanded by Gul Hovat. I'm transmitting the ship's specifications and the limited commander's dossier over to you now, sir."  (reply Straton iyw)  "As for the other two signatures, I'm fairly certain that we're looking at a single vessel, which may be experimenting with a variable warp field realignment technology. Starfleet Intelligence assets indicated that there were unsubstantiated reports of such a first-generation technology under development by the Cardassian Union, although exact details are unknown. My reason for believing that this may be the case stems from the unwavering field harmonics found in the tertiary EM bands. When comparing both signatures, that same field harmonic is detectable.  Such a harmonic could be a result of a miniscule flaw or mineralization found in the physical structure of the ship's warp coil assembly or any number of the individual coils. We're still trying to see if we can identify the vessel with any accuracy, or narrow it down to a few likely candidates." (reply Straton) Baylon turned and looked at his assistant. "Mister Katsurou, please dig through the SFI data logs and see if you can match any Galor -class variants of type II or type III to any sort of long term refurbishing cycle that may correlate with the required replacement of the ship's warp coils or assemblies. Then see if you can identify any of those results against any long-range scans taken of known  Cardassian refurbishment centers where such work had been done. Let's see if we can either match the signature that way or uncover a discrepancy." (reply Katsurou) "Lieutenant Bracken, sir, is there any chance that we can identify the particular cause of that harmonic resonance from here?  Hopefully back to a place or region that we can use to narrow our broader search?" Baylon asked. (reply Straton, Katsurou, Bracken) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Bridge- CSO/2O Bracken, 16:50) "Aye Captain," Bohb replied as he stood, watching the captain head to her Ready Room.  Once the door closed he began to pace the bridge.  "Please send a copy of the data stream from the sensor sweeps and the probe to my station Lt. Bracken." Dale looked round briefly; pulling her attention away from the screen in front of her, the data streaming through her terminal. “Aye sir.” She hit a combination of keys that would copy the data as it reached her station, and route the copy to the main chair. “Stream data copied and routed to your station Sir.” Dale called across. “No anomalies or non-standard features at this moment.” (Reply Bohb) (posted by Mark) (USS Hades, Bridge - ATAC Takeshi Katsurou - 1654) Baylon turned and looked at his assistant. Let's see if we can either match the signature that way or uncover a discrepancy." "Yes Sir."   The young Ensign turned back to his console and began to access the SFI data base. It prompted him for his verification, he entered the numbers that he almost knew better than his own name. Takeshi found it odd and slightly annoying that a number could be more important than his name, although he accepted it as necessary. Once the computer accepted him as a known entity he quickly started scanning through the logs to find the information that was relevant. He soon found what he was looking for.   "Intelligence confirms that there have been at least three vessels which required repairs and augmentation of ships systems for extended periods of time. The Borad, a Galor -class type III. The Aldara, another Galor -class, variant type is unknown. And lastly the Alant, a Keldon -class. Those three ships are reportedly known to have undergone heavy repairs. The Aldara was detected in a scan of the heavily defended facilities in orbit above Sarpedion V." Takeshi frowned as he continued to sift through reports. One of them spoke of a new shield augmentation technology that was being researched on that same planet. Thought the reports said it was unconfirmed as to whether this was true or not he thought it worth mentioning. "Sir, there is an unconfirmed rumor that the Cardassians are developing technology to augment their shields on Sarpedion V. I thought it worth mentioning. But there is no collaborative evidence to even suggest that it has anything to do with these ships." (Reply Trinin) Christopher Black (USS Hades-Bridge - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 1656) Bohb nodded as the captain looked at him. He could here the door to the Ready Room open and close again, and by the loss of the captain's scent figured that she had returned from whence she came. He tapped the comm channel on the side of his command chair. "Lt. Commander Bohb to Dr. Trommashere, report to the captain's Ready Room by 1710 hours, at the latest." (reply Angeni) He tapped the comm channel again. "Lt. Commander Bohb to Lt. Wright, report to the captain's Ready Room by 1710 hours. Do not be late." (reply Wright) When he was done he looked over at the officers who were on the bridge. "I can only imagine that the conversation with the admiral was fruitful, and we'll have more to do than just monitor an area of space." (reply any if you want) (USS Hades- Bridge CSEC/CTAC Lt. Baylon Trinin, 1658) Takeshi wasted no time at all in getting to work, and it quickly became apparent that he possessed a great deal of skill in conducting broad search parameters and finding relevant data. The report on his findings were relevant and succinct. The Aldara was detected in a scan of the heavily defended facilities in orbit above Sarpedion V." The ensign explained. Baylon considered this piece of information. With Sarpedion V in the equation, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that any newly refit ship could be sent to the latest hotspot that the Union found interesting. If the Cardassians were in the area, there was no telling what they might be up to. When coupled with the suspicions of the possible subversion of the only federation starbase in this sector, there could be a significance to the connection. Apparently his protege was thinking along similar lines. "Sir, there is an unconfirmed rumor that the Cardassians are developing technology to augment their shields on Sarpedion V. I thought it worth mentioning. But there is no collaborative evidence to even suggest that it has anything to do with these ships." "Hmm. While it may not have any solid evidence, it doesn't hurt to keep it in mind. See what you can dig up on this research, if anything. If that leads to a dead end, you can coordinate with Doctor Bracken and Ensign Mac Liam to make adjustments to the subspace deflector relays to pick up a specialized band of subspace vibrations. We can record them and see if we can find a pattern indicative of Cardassian subspace communications. If we can find a strong enough vibration, we maybe able to reconstruct the signal and maybe even decrypt some communications between Cardassian ships and Prime." (reply Katsurou) "No I don't suppose you would have. It's a little trick I learned from a Romulan military Advisor during the Kimdan Invasion. It's not exactly standard operating procedure and one that should stay off the books if you understand my meaning." Baylon picked up a PADD and tapped out a series of frequencies into the device. "These are the subspace frequency bands we should focus on. And the latter set is the filter migration settings to filter out our own warp field and subspace interference. You'll need to work with someone in engineering also, so see if MacLiam is available. He's excellent with tactical systems and would understand this the first time around. But before you go to him, you'll need to get the sensor field distortion statistics from Lieutenant Bracken." (reply Katsurou) Daniel Greene (USS Hades, Ready Room, CTAC/CSEC Lieutenant Baylon Trinin, 1712)   Baylon had listened intently as the captain had laid out the nature of their mission. It was clear that the admiral suspected something, after all there seemed to be plenty of reason to do so, considering that the commander of the starbase and Admiral Sevant had been close acquaintances for many years. A sudden unexplainable change of behavior coupled with the sort of legendary intuition that the admiral possessed gave a good indication that everything wasn't as it seemed.   "Lt. Trinin, I will need your department to lead the investigation on confirming or refuting the admirals suspicions and just how deeply the bases security has been compromised.   You may required medicals assistance in that regard.  Until we have something concrete that we can take to JAG, I want to keep this entire operation on the down low.  No one on the base can know what we are up to.  I don't want to tip any potential spies off that we are on to them."   "I understand Captain." Baylon replied with a short nod. "I think that Ensign Katsurou and I can handle that sort of operation alongside Doctor Trommashere and any of her staff that may be needed. However, It may not be wise for the captain to ask the means by which we may acquire our information. Regardless I am certain that everything will meet JAGs exacting standards."   (Reply Any) Daniel Greene (USS Hades, Ready Room, CEO Lieutenant Darla Wright, 1715)   Along with everyone else that had been summoned, Darla had reported to the Ready room only to hear something that she had never expected to hear. That is that she was to sabotage the Hades in a manner that would allow them to request engineering assistance from DS15, a station that was suspect in the eyes of Starfleet's Admiralty. "Lt. Wright, we need some type of technical difficulties that would warrant our going to DS15 to assist with repairs.  Though I am loath to allow them access to our systems, we need to have a legitimate reason to be at the base.  Your people and Lt. Trinin's will have to keep a close watch on anyone from the base working on our systems."   Darla's eyes got as big as saucers at the command that the captain had just given her. "Uh captain Sir, I can certainly understand the need for secrecy, but may I ask how convincing this charade of ours needs to be? Are we talking minor repairs or are you wanting us to have a very real need for repair after I've completed my sabotage?"  (reply Straton) "I see well I could have a purposeful power fluctuation blow out several secondary EPS conduits and due some reasonable damage to the secondary and tertiary core. It won't cripple us tactically or jeopardize our lives but it will require us to put in for immediate repair at the closest capable repair station. It would take some time to repair as well, which means we should have plenty of time to snoop around before we lose any pretense for our presence there." She offered. "We wouldn't be able to go to Tri-vector mode, but we'd be ship-shape as a single craft." (reply Straton, Any Present) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Ready Room - aFO- Lt. Commander Bohb- 1717) Bohb listened to the report Captain Straton gave about her conversation with Admiral Sevant. It seemed as thought there was more going on at starbase DS15 than anyone was comfortable with. However few details were offered. Cardassian spies on a Federation starbase was not unheard of. Bohb, though, gave very little credit to Cardassian Intelligence. Still, the Cardassians had been quiet for a time. However, to put an imposter in a position of authority seemed... difficult for Bohb to believe for the Cardassians. Now the Romulans was a completely different matter, although there had been an awkward peace between the RSE and the Federation since their last negotiations leading to a new treaty. He listened as the captain gave out orders to the other senior officers, and wondered if he had any further orders for his FO. Perhaps she wanted to see Bohb take on responsibilities. He had no problem with that. Before he could say anything however, Wright spoke out. She was concerned about the viability of any subterfuge that would require the help of a space station, without putting the ship actually in jeopardy. Her conclusion to find a way that only affected the use of the tri-vector mode worked well. "I really don't see that there would be a need for the tactical advantage of a tri-vector mode at this point, unless an invading force suddenly arrived in the sector," Bohb replied. "I think we might see that coming. It might also give us the opportunity to fine tune any systems that have need as we watch the engineering staff of the station. Lt. Trinan, I would like to have extra security forces interact with the Engineering staff, perhaps under cover, in engineering uniforms." (reply Trinan) Bohb had to smile to himself. It was almost like a James Bond novel. He had to remind himself of the seriousness of the situation. "We might also need a reason to access the medical records of the starbase," Bohb added. "Is there some reason we can come up with the make this a legitimate search of the data base? Perhaps there would be a donor required for some surgical procedure, Doctor?" (reply Angeni) Then Bohb turned to the CO. "Captain, did the admiral give you any reason or evidence that there might be any espionage going on. "Something is amiss," and "noticing anomolies" is not really in depth reasons for such an investigation." (reply Straton) Finally Bohb looked at the attending staff. "I would like everyone to coordinate their efforts through me, so that the captain and I know what is going on at all times. Once we arrive at DS15 I want everyone on full alert." (reply any) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Hades, Ready Room, CO Captain Eva Straton, 17:19) "I understand Captain." Baylon replied with a short nod. "I think that Ensign Katsurou and I can handle that sort of operation alongside Doctor Trommashere and any of her staff that may be needed. However, It may not be wise for the captain to ask the means by which we may acquire our information. Regardless I am certain that everything will meet JAGs exacting standards." "Just get it done," Eva replied, "If we can clear the bases Security Chief of suspicion and bring him on board that would go a long way to helping our cause, but I want them cleared first." (Reply Trinin IYW) "Uh captain Sir, I can certainly understand the need for secrecy, but may I ask how convincing this charade of ours needs to be? Are we talking minor repairs or are you wanting us to have a very real need for repair after I've completed my sabotage?" Lt. Wright asked "I don't want the ship crippled, and I don't want the crews lives put at risk, obviously," Eva replied, "However it will need to be convincing enough to fool other engineers like yourself and will need to be something that we can't readily repair in the field." "I see well I could have a purposeful power fluctuation blow out several secondary EPS conduits and due some reasonable damage to the secondary and tertiary core. It won't cripple us tactically or jeopardize our lives but it will require us to put in for immediate repair at the closest capable repair station. Trinin, I would like to have extra security forces interact with the Engineering staff, perhaps under cover, in engineering uniforms." "If necessary we can also put the Combat Engineers in Engineering for extra security," Eva said, "Though I would rather not get the marines involved in this if we don't have to. The advantage of the CE's though is they are all fully qualified engineers and can pass for a member of the engineering staff as well as handle themselves if push comes to shove. They just don't have the investigative training that the security personnel do. I would prefer that we damage only one of our back up warp cores, if we can get away with it, it would still warrant a visit to the base and still leave us as much back up power as possible in case of something unforeseen happening. "We might also need a reason to access the medical records of the Starbase," Bohb added. "Is there some reason we can come up with the make this a legitimate search of the data base? Perhaps there would be a donor required for some surgical procedure, Doctor?" (reply Angeni) "Captain," Bohb said turning to face her. "Did the admiral give you any reason or evidence that there might be any espionage going on. "Something is amiss," and "noticing anomalies" is not really in depth reasons for such an investigation." "Yes he did," Eva replied, "Some of them I am not at liberty to discuss at this time. However, the commander of DS15 and Admiral Sevant attended the Academy together. When the Admiral last spoke to Captain Nelson the Admiral noticed peculiar gaps in the Captains long term memory. The Captain also unknowingly lied his way through a conversation about his days at the Academy with the Admiral." "I would like everyone to coordinate their efforts through me, so that the captain and I know what is going on at all times. Once we arrive at DS15 I want everyone on full alert," Commander Bohb said looking at the attending staff. "Does anyone have anything else to add?" Eva asked. The captain replied. Of course, Darla ignored the fact that the Captain pointed out the two most obvious points involved in their purposeful sabotage.   "I see, well I could have a purposeful power fluctuation blow out several secondary EPS conduits and due some reasonable damage to the secondary and tertiary core. It won't cripple us tactically or jeopardize our lives but it will require us to put in for immediate repair at the closest capable repair station. I have a number that have some basic engineering skills. Nothing too elaborate, but they should stand in well enough to avoid arousing suspicion." The Betazoid security chief replied.   "Uh, Captain, excuse me sir. I wasn't very clear." Darla broke in. "I was referring to computer cores, not Warp cores. I wouldn't dare touch one of the warp cores with something like that, it's too difficult to ascertain the outcome. But I can certainly arrange for a computer core failure. If that's acceptable?"   (reply Straton, Bohb)   "We might also need a reason to access the medical records of the Starbase," Bohb added. "Something is amiss," and "noticing anomalies" is not really in depth reasons for such an investigation."   "Yes he did," Eva replied, "Some of them I am not at liberty to discuss at this time.  However, the commander of DS15 and Admiral Sevant attended the Academy together.  When the Admiral last spoke to Captain Nelson the Admiral noticed peculiar gaps in the Captain's long-term memory. Baylon replied.   "Nor I sir." Darla added, already her brain was running at warp ten working out the details of the forthcoming cascade failure of the secondary computer core.   (reply Angeni, Bohb, Straton) Daniel Greene   (USS Hades, Ready Room, CO Captain Eva Straton, 17:21) "Uh, Captain, excuse me sir. I wasn't very clear." Darla broke in. "I was referring to computer cores, not Warp cores. I wouldn't dare touch one of the warp cores with something like that, it's too difficult to ascertain the outcome. But I can certainly arrange for a computer core failure. If that's acceptable?" Eva nodded. "That would be acceptable," she replied. When all questions and concerns had been addressed, Eva brought the meeting to a close. "Alright, we have a lot of work to do, so lets get busy," She said with a nod. "Your all dismissed." (Reply Any Present, Any) (posted by Wes) (USS Hades - Main Engineering - CEO Lieutenant Darla Wright - 1740) Once they had been dismissed from the meeting Darla had wasted no time whatsoever heading to main Engineering. She had a million things to do, crew to arrange, sabotage to conduct and two senior officers to recruit for the job. And then to make matters worse, she'd have to verify that the work was serious and make it look so innocuous that the majority of the ship's crew including her own engineers had no idea that this was all an elaborate ruse. The fewer people that knew about it, the lower the chances someone would slip up and let the proverbial cat out of the bag. So her trip to main engineering had been filled with a variety of thoughts each jockeying for the dominate position in the forefront of her brain. She walked into the department almost on automatic as she visualized the various components that were going to be affected. She stopped just outside her office, took a deep mentally cleansing breath and tapped her commbadge. "Wright to Mac Liam and Valanar. Report to my office immediately, turn over all current projects to qualified engineering team leads. We have a development I need to discuss with you." (reply Mac Liam, Valanar) Daniel Greene (USS Hades- Security Offices CSEC/CTAC Lt. Baylon Trinin, 1800) Baylon had reached the security offices quickly, but he wanted to do a little research on the personnel on his staff to determine who would be the best assignments to add to the engineering department for the operation. Once he had that information in mind, he quickly put it on a PADD and then tapped his commbadge. Things were going to be very interesting very shortly for the security staff of the Hades. "Trinin to Katsurou, please report to my office right away." (Reply Katsurou) The Ensign arrived quickly and baylon wasted no time. He motioned the junior officer to sit opposite him and then sealed the door to the office. he then disabled the ship's log recorder so that nothing that they said would be found in the logs. Later he'd add some conversation to fit the time that they used here. "Ensign we don't have a great deal of time, so I'm going to come straight to the point. Our mission in this sector just got a great deal more complicated. It is believed that there is a possible impostor in control of DS15. as a result we have been ordered to investigate, confirm or deny this rumor and then report back." "To accomplish this without too much suspicion, the CEO has been ordered to sabotage the ship so that we have a legitimate reason for putting into port for repairs." He slid the PADD across the table to his Assistant. "When we reach the station, we will be allowing some of their engineers on board. because we do not know how far this infiltration may reach, we must be vigilant. These personnel have engineering training and as such they will be placed in engineering uniforms an insinuated into the engineering staff with orders to monitor all engineering personnel brought aboard the Hades from DS15." "At some point you and I will need to make our way aboard the Station without being detected. I need you to pull the plans for the station, and find us a way inside that we can use without detection. Stealth will be our greatest ally in this operation. We have been authorized to use whatever means we need to acquire the information we need. But before we do any arrests, the information for JAG must be solid." "What questions do you have for me?" (reply Katsurou) Daniel Greene
